What is bullying in the workplace?

Bullying is the "repeated & unreasonable behaviour directed towards a worker or group of workers that creates a rick to health & safety".

Health & safety may also include the psychological health of the worker.

It can also be intentional or unintentional and by done through social media (Facebook, Twitter etc).

Examples of workplace bullying can include:

  • abusive / insulting / offensive language and / or comments;
  • unjustified criticism or complaints;
  • spreading misinformation or rumors;
  • unreasonable timelines / deadlines;
  • tasks that are unreasonably below or beyond the skill set of the workers;
  • deliberately changing rosters / leave; and
  • deliberately excluding someone from workplace activities.
If you are suffered from workplace bullying and think you may have a claim, contact the team at G&B Lawyers.

Dumping of asbestos - 'The Toxic Cowboy'

Mr Dib Hanna, also known as ‘The Toxic Cowboy’ is again in the Land & Environment Court facing sentencing after being found guilty for multiple criminal convictions and more than 20 fines for illegally dumping asbestos and other illegal wastes across Sydney.

He is known for looking for vacant blocks of residential land and dumping illegal waste without any regard for public safety.
He has been caught and prosecuted by the authorities countless times, given suspended sentences by Judges and his fines are mounting.  He appears to simply disregard all of this and continue his illegal dumping activities.

There is a reason why dangerous wastes such as asbestos have to be tipped off at a secure and licensed landfill – it is the only safe way of disposing of the material, (it must be buried immediately under a layer of earth).
Should someone who operates an illegal waste disposal business and dumps waste without paying tipping fees at a landfill avoid jail time?
